Tatami Flow - Square Tatami Mat
We can ship within a month in most cases, but some items may take up to 2 months for delivery.
MIYABI CRAFT has collaborated with Matsuba Tatami to create an original tatami mat designed for floor use. By combining several mats to fit your space, you can create a small Japanese-style room within your home. This space can be used to enjoy Japanese tea or matcha, or even as a comfortable sleeping area with a futon. The mats are lightweight, making it easy to rearrange your space as desired.
The 90cm x 90cm (approximately 35.4 in x 35.4 in) size is convenient for both carrying and storage. When two mats are connected, they approximate the size of a standard tatami mat. Additionally, the mats feature a non-slip backing, ensuring they stay securely in place on hardwood floors.
Tatami, a unique aspect of Japanese culture, offers numerous benefits such as softness, fragrance, and texture. Additionally, the natural properties of igusa (rush grass) provide excellent benefits, including humidity regulation, relaxation effects, and antibacterial action.
The structure of a tatami mat is divided into three layers: the tatami-doko “tatami base,” tatami-omote “tatami surface,” and tatami-beri “tatami ribbon,” a fabric that resembles a belt and is attached to the edges of tatami mats.

Tatami-doko
We have collaborated with specialized craftsmen to create a base material that prioritizes comfort when stepping, sitting, or lying down.
While some tatami mat can be quite firm, our mats offer a balanced cushioning that feels pleasant when sleeping. They are also designed for durability to prevent sagging or indentations even with repeated use.

Tatami-omote
Our mats use rare, high-quality igusa from Kumamoto, Japan. Currently, 80% of tatami surfaces in Japan are imported.
The number of igusa farmers in Kumamoto, which accounts for over 90% of domestic production, has drastically decreased from around 4,500 in 1989 to fewer than 500 in 2015 due to aging and succession issues. Matsuba Tatami supports these farmers, often helping with the harvest. Igusa grows in paddies similar to rice and takes about 19 months to harvest from the seedling stage.
Relaxing on a well-crafted tatami surface with its natural igusa fragrance can soothe both the mind and body. The mats are meticulously made to ensure tight seams and no gaps when placed together.

Tatami-Beri
We use tatami-beri sourced from a supplier in Hiroshima, featuring a traditional Japanese shippo pattern. This auspicious design, made by interlocking quarter-circle motifs, symbolizes completeness, harmony, and good fortune, enhancing the tatami's aesthetic appeal.
